Happy 4th of July, everyone have a safe and fun holiday!

Snow in November!

Posted November 20th, 2013 by admin with Comments Off on Snow in November!

I was surprised to see that we had snowfall here in the Charlotte area before Thanksgiving!  It didn’t stick around long enough to cause us to load up the ice melt, but it certainly put us on notice that we need to prepare early this year for inclement weather!  It certainly makes you wonder what we have in store for us this winter season.  Get out those winter coats, sweaters, and boots…but remember to always dress in layers, with the wonderful southern sunshine we have around here it can get in the 70’s by noon!

Frost in the forecast!

Posted October 22nd, 2013 by admin with Comments Off on Frost in the forecast!

It’s that time of the year here in the Carolinas and the weatherman is talking Frost! Don’t worry, we will still see 80 degrees before Winter sets in. Time to pull out those sweaters and sweatshirts and enjoy Fall in the Carolinas.

If you have any veggie plants left over from Summer, cover them up on these cold nights. I still have tomatoes on the vine and I’d really like to save them, since we had so much rain this Summer they didn’t produce as well as normal. I didn’t even do any canning this year.

It is time to plant those Fall/Winter annuals – the pansies are looking very good right now. These cool evenings are wonderful to sit outside around your fire pit or outdoor fireplace enjoying your landscape. Your outdoor living space can be enjoyed year round. Don’t you just love living here in the Carolinas – so much sunshine and only enough snow to enjoy the view for a day or two.

Life is short – enjoy it!

Fall is here!

Posted September 24th, 2013 by admin with Comments Off on Fall is here!

It was certainly a wet Summer…not what we are used to here in the Carolinas. We are starting to see some leaves drop, but hopefully we will still see the beautiful Fall Color as our leaves begin to change.

It is time to think about aeration, overseeding and fertilization. If your yard has thick & full turf, think about only aerating and fertilizing.

A fire pit would be a great addition to your landscape for these cool evenings coming up. Roasting marshmallows is fun for all ages, add some chocolate and graham crackers for some smores!

Skyline in the news!

I was interviewed today by Channel 14 News at the Small Business Week Conference here in Charlotte. The conference was very inspiring and I’d like to thank all of the wonderful people who helped put together the event. We are so lucky to be in a community who strives to recognize small businesses and help them achieve their goals. I am also honored to be a finalist in one of the Crowns of Enterprise Award categories – WBE (Woman Business Enterprise). The Ceremony will be May 23, 2013…stay tuned to see if Skyline Design & Landscape is chosen as the winner!

What are you doing for Mother’s Day?

Posted May 6th, 2013 by admin with No Comments

Mom would love a flowering tree planted in her honor. How about some blooming Azaleas or an herb garden? Maybe a fire pit so she can relax outside on cool nights. Vegetable plants are also a great addition for her garden and maybe she will make you something from them! If space is limited, perhaps some flowers in pots or hanging baskets to add some color to her landscape. If all else fails, Mom would love for you to clean her house and make her dinner and of course do the dishes!! Mother’s Day only comes once a year, do something special for her…it’s less than a week away. If you are pressed for time, how about a gift certificate from Skyline Design and Landscape, we are only a phone call or a click away!

April Showers!

Posted April 29th, 2013 by admin with No Comments

Wow, we have had some rain here in the Charlotte area. While you were inside all weekend, what new outdoor project did you think of – a paver patio, a firepit, a new landscape bed to reduce the grass you have to cut? Or is drainage a problem? We can solve your drainage issues, we are just a phone call or a click away!

Happy Arbor Day!

Posted April 26th, 2013 by admin with No Comments

The idea for Arbor Day originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The first Arbor Day was in 1872, when the State Board of Agriculture accepted a resolution by J. Sterling Morton “to set aside one day to plant trees, both forest and fruit”. More than one million trees were planted in Nebraska on this first Arbor Day!

Today Arbor Day is recognized as a National Event; look at what it is called in other countries…

 Israel – New Year’s Day of the Trees
 Korea – Tree-Loving Week
 Iceland – Student’s Afforestation Day
 Yugoslavia – Arbor Day in the Spring and an Afforestation Day in the Fall
 India – National Festival of Tree Planting

“The simple act of planting a tree represents a belief that the tree will grow and, some day, provide wood products, wildlife habitat, erosion control, shelter from the wind and sun, beauty, and inspiration for ourselves and our children.”

“To exist as a nation, to prosper as a state, and to live as a people, we must have trees.”
–Theodore Roosevelt

Happy Earth Day!

Posted April 22nd, 2013 by admin with No Comments

It is easy to take what the Earth gives us for granted. Make today the day you decide to think about making a change…recycle it instead of trash it; pick up someone else’s trash; start a compost pile; plant a tree; feed the birds; or simply go outside and enjoy what Mother Nature has given us! Do your part to save our planet – don’t litter or waste our natural resources…I want our future generations to have a wonderful place to live, don’t you?
